An INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE FORM

Style : Pondanallur -Mysore 




Natyarambha sloka 

Vishnu shakthi samuthpannae

Chithravarnae maheethalai

Natyam Karishyae Bhoodevii

Padaakhatham Shamaswamae

Devatanaam Shirasthasthu

Gurunamasya samsthithaha

Vakshasthaschaiva vipranaam

Sheshethwa niyamo bhaveth.


Meaning : 

I pay my salutation to the mother earth who is conceived from the power and strength of Lord Vishnu, and who is endowed with a magnificent horizon of picturesque colors and many precious stones. We offer prayers with Anjali hasta placed above the head for the Gods, at the forehead for the Guru’s, in front of the chest for all the elders and for all others .

Vachikam Sarva Vangmayam 
Aaharyam Chandra Taradi
Tam Numah Saatvikam Shivam 

Meaning : 

Whose bodily movement is the entire Universe
Whose speech is the language (of the Universe)
Whose ornaments are the moon and the stars
Him, we version the pure Lord Shiva!

 

Exercises

1. Natyarambha exercise

Stretch ur foot to 180 degrees, bend ur knees and sit in half posture with Ardhachandra hastha placed on your waist and back straight, look front. sit in this posture for 40-50 counts.

2. Full Sitting and jumping

Sit fully on ur toes, lock ur hands in samputa hastha and jump for 20 counts.

3. Side bending

lock ur fingers stretch up bend sidewards both towards right and left.

4. Front bending

Strectch ur hands and bend forward with knee straight and touch ur toes.

5. Full jumping 

Mushti hasta in front, jump on ur toes.

6. Eye movement

Katakamukha hasta in front, Sidewards- right and left movement

7. Eyebrows movement

Lift both the eyebrows

8. Neck movement

Sidewards - Right and left 

9. Full sitting and strectching excersise

Asamyutha hasta

Meaning : Single hand gestures

1. Pataaka

Right hasta- all fingeres stretched with thumb bent

2.Tripataaka

Pataka with ring finger bent

3. Ardhapataaka

Pataka with ring and little finger bent

4. Karthari mukha

Ring and little finger fully bent with thumb on it and index and middle fingers stretched and crossed. like a scissors.
